How each mode works

A full breakdown of every feature — so you know exactly what Claritas is doing and why.

🚫
Focus Blocking
Always On

Toggle any category on and Claritas immediately blocks all its domains via Chrome's declarativeNetRequest API. Blocked pages redirect to the Claritas blocked screen — complete with a motivational quote and a meme to keep you smiling.

Open the popup and toggle a category switch
Choose a lock duration — or select "No Limit" to block without a timer
Timed locks cannot be removed early — this is intentional
Add any custom domain in the "Block a Custom Site" panel
⏱️
Time Limiter
New

Unlike hard blocking, the Time Limiter lets you visit a site — but only for a set number of minutes per day. When time runs out, you're redirected to the "Time's Up" page and locked out until midnight.

Scroll to the ⏱️ Time Limiter panel in the popup
Type a domain (e.g. youtube.com) and daily minutes allowed
Claritas tracks active tab time using Chrome alarms
Limits reset automatically at midnight each day
🍅
Pomodoro Timer
Focus

The built-in Pomodoro timer runs work-break cycles and manages your blocking rules automatically. During a break, all blocked sites temporarily unblock. When the break ends, blocking reinstates and Claritas redirects any distraction tabs.

Select a preset (25/5, 50/10) or enter custom minutes
Set a daily cycle goal (1–12) and track dots filling up
Pause, skip, or stop at any time — the timer persists across tabs
Completed cycles are logged to your weekly analytics chart
🌿
Digital Detox
Wellness

After 3+ hours of tracked focus time, Claritas shows a "Digital Detox Recommended" banner in the popup. A full detox opens a calming full-screen page, suspending all activity for 5–10 minutes so your eyes can rest.

The banner appears automatically after 3 hrs of focus
Click "Start Now" for an immediate 10-minute rest
Or click "Set Time" to schedule a detox in 15–120 minutes
A system notification fires at the end to bring you back
📖
Study Journal
Log

A dedicated journaling page lets you record study sessions with subject, date, duration, score, and notes. Sessions persist locally and you can review your history, track streaks, and see how your scores improve over time.

Click "📖 Journal" in the popup header to open it
Add a session: subject, date, duration, and optional score
View past sessions sorted by date with streak indicators
An evening notification at 10 PM reminds you to log the day
📅
Focus Schedules
Auto

Schedule any block category to activate automatically on specific days and times. Claritas checks schedules every minute and enforces them without you having to remember to turn anything on.

Click "📅 Schedule" on any category card in the popup
Pick the days of the week and a start / end time
The category shows a "📅 Auto" badge when the schedule is active
Scheduled blocks are lifted automatically when the window ends
Common Questions

FAQ

No — and that's the point. Timed locks are intentionally irremovable until the timer expires. This prevents the "I'll just unblock it for a minute" loop that defeats most blockers. Choose your lock duration wisely!
Yes. The 6 built-in categories cover 80+ popular domains, and you can add any custom domain in the "Block a Custom Site" panel. The Time Limiter also works on any domain you type in.
Daily limits reset at midnight local time each day. When you first visit a limited site on a new day, Claritas automatically resets the counter and gives you a fresh allowance.
Never. All data — your blocked sites, timers, study journal, and analytics — is stored entirely in your browser's local storage using chrome.storage.local. Nothing leaves your device.
Only if you enable "Allow in Incognito" in Chrome's extension settings. By default, Chrome extensions don't run in incognito windows. You can enable it manually for airtight blocking.
No. Blocking uses Chrome's native declarativeNetRequest API — rules are evaluated by the browser engine itself, not JavaScript. The extension's service worker only wakes up for alarm events and navigation checks.
